Full Programmes Details

Let us take the stress out of revision. Programmes are carefully designed to lead students through a long-term plan that gives them the best possible chance of the grade they aspire to. By doing a little every week, under careful guidance and supervision, students learn to see how the whole jigsaw fits together. Tackling complex exam-style questions suddenly becomes satisfyingly fun, akin to completing a good sudoku puzzle! The goal is not only to maximise their maths grades, but to free up extra time in the summer for revision of other subjects.

Interactive Lessons

Our online learning programmes are built around interactive lessons that engage and challenge students. Each lesson will begin by re-capping and consolidating the core skills required before moving on to how they are applied to more complex exam-style questions.

Drop-In Sessions

Students are free to attend these sessions as the need arises. During these slots, they can ask about any problems they have, whether related to our programme or their own school work.

Weekly Homework

Weekly homework assignments are set to be handed in and assessed. This individual feedback plays a key part in the student's progress, providing a focus for future one-to-one conversations and targets for (guided) independent learning. Indeed, besides the excellent teaching, this is probably the most valuable part of the programmes.

Homework Feedback Sessions

Group sessions where we discuss the latest homework piece to have been assessed. Building on the individual written feedback, we will delve a little deeper and consider the 'what, why, where, when, and how'. This will help consolidate all of the useful exam hints and tricks which will be given throughout the programme.

Which Full Programmes Are on Offer?

For those needing a boost to recap and consolidate the fundamentals as they begin their GCSE journey. It is so important that students master the basic techniques that underpin the rest of the mathematical learning pyramid. Students (and carers!) will be surprised by the progress made by joining this course. And, of course, with more success comes more enjoyment...

Aimed at students needing a helping hand to begin enjoying maths again as they aim to ensure a solid pass and perhaps aim for a grade 7 or even higher. More of a focus (than the level 9 programme) on consolidating key skills which underpin multiple topics in order to maximise the net return on time and effort invested.

Fairly happy with the way year 10 has gone, and has a decent grasp on all techniques covered so far. But want to make sure you stay on top of things as the more difficult topics come along as you aim for the maximum grade? This course has a heavier emphasis on the more complex skills and topics, with lots of exam practice along the way to ensure students are in the perfect position well before the exam season starts.

Want to get a head start on your AS level? Or maybe just fancy an extra qualification? Perhaps you just love maths and want the extra challenge! This programme will include detailed teaching and coverage of the topics which are not on the regular GCSE syllabus, whilst also consolidating many of the more difficult skills to help keep the regular GCSE grade high.

At this level, it is even more important to know the 'why' and not just the 'how'. Of course, we need to be able to perform the skills, and each lesson will begin by reviewing these techniques. The main focus will be applying skills to exam-style questions and to be able to do this, students must have a firm grasp on why things work so they can adapt as the nature of a question changes. Gone are the days of predictable GCSE questions, which are very linear in fashion. Now, we must become problem solvers. Being able to spot the key trigger words in a question and the ability to interpret coded messages play a huge part in success.

The theme from the year 12 programme remains, but now the work is becoming rather more difficult, and this is where the real fun begins! The skills take a big step-up in level, and the exam-style questions go up several levels. We are still looking for those key triggers and the 'ins' to problems in context, though sometimes there isn't one (and we still don't know where to start)! In these circumstances, we must learn to use the information at hand and 'just do the maths' until the answer presents itself.

Year 10 full programme

Aims:

  • Master algebra.
  • Regularly review topics, allowing students to gain confidence and enjoyment in the subject whilst they rush through a hectic syllabus in school.
  • Reach the end of the year without the need to worry about having to revise many of the topics from previous terms. By carefully interweaving skills and regularly reviewing (and assessing) earlier skills, students learn to see how the whole picture fits together.

What is included?

  • 2.5 hours of contact time per week.
  • One weekly assignment. Marked with detailed feedback.
  • Maximum group size of only 6 students, allowing a thorough and truly individual learning experience for less than the cost of 1-hour private tuition.

Format

  • One 1-hour lesson. Lessons will review the fundamentals, with a heavy focus on understanding why things work. This is key to building the foundations on which the rest of the course depends. There will be plenty of time for students to practice and refine their skills before moving on to the next topic.
  • The emphasis at the start of the course is on gaining complete mastery of core algebraic techniques. Once this is achieved, we will move onto various GCSE topics, which are always on exam papers.
  • Lessons are recorded*, and students can review these at their leisure.
  • A weekly homework assignment. This is marked, with detailed individual written feedback given. This is an absolutely vital part of the programme, allowing me to see exactly what misconceptions each individual has and allowing me to work with the child, gently shifting their working patterns toward solid, yet adaptable approaches.
  • One 30-minute homework feedback session (also recorded).* A chance to review marked homework assignments, discuss common misconceptions and consider any 'what if .... next time?'
  • One 1-hour drop-in session** Students are free to come and go as they please to these slots. They may have individual questions about work done in this programme. They are also encouraged to use this slot to bring any problems from their regular school work. Should all members of the group require bespoke time during this hour, then we will divide the session accordingly. The hour is still open to all, however, as a lot can be learned from listening to others' problems and solutions.
  • Recorded sessions are available to all members of the group to review up until the evening of the final maths GCSE exam in the summer.

SORRY, THIS PROGRAMME IS FULL. PLEASE CONTACT US TO DISCUSS SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS. IF ALTERNATIVE ARRANGEMENTS CAN'T BE MADE THEN THERE IS A WAITING LIST WHICH, WHEN FULL, WILL LEAD TO THE CREATION OF A NEW GROUP PROGRAMME FOR YEAR 10.

Year 11 - Working Toward a Level 7 Full Programme

With the GCSE syllabus being so broad in many subjects, schools often struggle just to get through all of the material without rushing in the final weeks before study leave begins. This leaves very little time for students to revise their weaker topics and then practice enough exam-style questions to be as fully prepared as they should be before exam season starts. This program aims to eliminate this problem for maths by ensuring students reach and maintain exam-level status well before they even leave school.

Aims

  • Quickly gain mastery of core algebraic techniques.
  • Learn to apply new skills across various topics.
  • Pick up on the key triggers and coded messages which exam questions use to direct students onto the required path.
  • Get back to enjoying maths - success breeds enjoyment, leads to more motivated students achieving even greater success...

What is included?

  • 2.5 hours of contact time per week.
  • One weekly assignment. Marked, with detailed feedback.
  • Maximum group size of 6 students, allowing a thorough and truly individual learning experience for less than the cost of 1-hour private tuition.
  • Extensive access to individual support during the exam season.
  • One 1-hour lesson.

Format

  • One 1-hour lesson.

Lessons will review the key skills required for a topic before quickly moving on to how they are applied in exam style questions.

Lessons are recorded* and students can review these at their leisure.

  • A weekly homework assignment.

This piece (all exam standard questions) is marked, with detailed individual written feedback given. Through regular repetition and feedback students will learn how to spot the key triggers that open up the most complex (and high tariff) exam questions. Problem solving skills will also be developed for situations where they simply cannot see what needs to be done; here they will learn to use the information at hand in an attempt to 'just do the maths' and see where it takes them (which is often a stage where the question suddenly fits together and they can reach a satisfactory conclusion. This is a vital skills for those considering the subject at A-level.

  • One 30-minute homework feedback session (also recorded*).

A chance to review marked homework assignments, discuss common misconceptions and consider any, 'what if .... next time?'

  • One 1-hour drop-in session**

Students are free to come and go as they please to these slots. They may have individual questions about work done in this programme. They are also encouraged to use this slot to bring any problems from their regular school work. Year 11 - Working Toward a Level 9 Full Programme

Ever been told at a parents’ evening or read the following in a report? “They knew how to do it. They just didn’t know what the question was asking.” Being able to perform all the necessary skills is just the first step in obtaining the maximum grade at GCSE. Students must also learn how to decipher the most difficult exam style questions before even starting a solution. Naturally, by attending this course, students will periodically be revising key skills from previous studies. The main focus, however, are the important buzzwords and triggers (coded messages and other command words) which dictate how an answer must be approached. Students will also become more confident at simply ‘using the information at hand and doing the maths’ when they aren’t really sure which direction to take. Sometimes, the solution actually presents itself!

Very similar programme to level 7 above, but with more of an emphasis on mastering the harder skills and applying them to questions in the latter stages of a GCSE paper.

Aims

  • Pick up on the key triggers and coded messages which exam questions use to direct students onto the required path.
  • Regular practice of skills across the whole syllabus through the weekly homework assignments, minimising the need for revision in the busy summer period.
  • Be able to use the information in a question to write elegant solutions which demonstrate full mastery of the topic.
  • Prepare for A-level maths.

What is included?

  • 2.5 hours of contact time per week.
  • One weekly assignment. Marked, with detailed feedback.

Year 11 - Level 2 Certificate in Further Maths full program

All topics which are not touched upon in the regular GCSE syllabus are covered in detail, so it would be possible to access this course even if it was not also being covered by the student's school or college. Where GCSE topics are stretched, we will also cover these extra bits with care. The rest of the syllabus will be covered to a lesser extent, though all will be tested within the weekly homework assignments.

Aims

  • Stretch and challenge yourself above the GCSE syllabus.
  • Be able to use the information in a question to write elegant solutions which demonstrate full mastery of the topic.
  • Get a real insight into what A-level maths would be like.
  • Gain an additional qualification!

What is included

  • Extensive access to individual support during the exam season
  • 3.5 hours of contact time per week.
  • One weekly assignment. Marked, with detailed feedback.
  • Maximum group size of 10 students.

Format:

  • Two 1-hour lessons. Lessons are taught on the basis that a student is not also covering the material with their school. This is an accelerated programme. However, so less time will be spent on exploring around a topic than might be the case with a full timetable slot. The emphasis will be on covering the whole syllabus in a fun, manageable way that fully prepares students for the exam, and the rest of their mathematical career. Lessons are recorded*, and students can review these at their leisure.
  • A weekly homework assignment. Of course, the main goal for many students is to get the correct answer, have the marks in the bank, and move on. With SnedEd2, there will be a requirement to produce full, eloquent solutions at this level. Students must demonstrate they understand why something works and not settle for the easiest 'how do I get the correct answer' approach.
  • One 30-minute homework feedback session (also recorded*). A chance to review marked homework assignments, discuss common misconceptions and consider any 'what if .... next time?'
  • 1-hour drop-in sessions** Students are free to come and go as they please to these slots. They may have individual questions about work done in this programme. Year 12 - AS Maths full programme

The jump from applying GCSE skills to the very linear nature of exam questions to applying A-level skills to exam standard questions often catches many students out. ‘Learning the recipe and swapping the numbers’ will likely not be enough to achieve the mid-level grades and the top grades will be well out of grasp. At this level, students must learn to become genuine problem solvers. This course will help them do just that. With the syllabus being so big, schools will be rushing to get through all of the material before the all-important mock exams that dictate UCAS's predicted grades. This leaves very little time at the end of the year to ‘revise’ and get up to exam standards. Instead, students must regularly review notes and complete many exam standard questions throughout the year whilst also staying on top of new material across their subjects. This can understandably become an overwhelming task, and students rightly prioritise the new material.

Aims:

  • Make sure all new skills are mastered at the first attempt. Help is available during drop-in sessions for any worries which come up at school or college.
  • Get up to exam standard questions early in the course. Then regular repetition and feedback to perfect exam technique.
  • Take the stress out of end-of-year revision by allowing the programme to quietly do it in the background for them.
  • Reach the full potential of UCAS predicted grade.
  • Be fully prepared to start the A2 material in year 13.

What is included?

  • Up to 4.5 hours of contact time per week.
  • One weekly assignment. Marked, with detailed feedback.
  • Maximum group size of 6 students.

Year 13 - A2 Maths full programme

Found the step up to exam standard questions for the end of year 12 exam a challenge? Worried you might not make your UCAS grade in the real exam? Need a helping hand with the more complex topics that you know are coming in year 13? Moving on to Further Maths, but worried you have not fully mastered, or might forget, the regular maths material? Was the end of year 12 report to the effect of, “you know how to do it, but cannot always see what the question was asking?”

There are just a few of the reasons why students may benefit from joining this course.

For me, the biggest of them all is that students are encouraged (I have been doing it myself for over 25 years!) to regularly review notes and complete as many exam style questions as possible throughout the year, but struggle to manage their time and maintain motivation to do so when they are busy with new material across three huge A-levels.

This course aims to eliminate this problem by consolidating skills a student may not quite have mastered, and supporting them through regular review work, all at exam standard.

All the big topics are covered in detail, with the rest being picked up through the flashcards and other revision materials provided.

The aim is to be exam ready before study leave even begins, with no topics needing to be ‘revised’ (often student talk for ‘figure out because I never really liked that bit’)! Instead, the final few weeks should be spent working comfortably through many past papers and other exam standard questions, keeping the material fresh, and applying all the exam hints and tips which will have been built up by then.
