Hello! My name is Andrew Snedden and I am excited to welcome you to SnedEd2. I hope this page explains my journey so far and my philosophy for teaching mathematics. In the products page you will find all of the services I offer. If you require any additional information then please do get in touch - I would be delighted to arrange a call and discuss your child's specific circumstances and goals.
Summary
Due to increasing class sizes, disruptive students, ongoing problems due to COVID, and/or many other factors, some teachers cannot give the personalised teaching experience that they perhaps once could. Curriculums are becoming ever larger, adding yet more time restraints on our children, and then there are the extra stresses of modern-day adolescence. Whatever the reason might be for any individual, trying to get out of the mathematical hole themselves whilst also staying on top of current school work across all their other subjects can often feel like an impossible burden.
I graduated with a B.Sc. Hons in Mathematics and Statistics from Newcastle University, where I studied from 1993 to 1996. My journey in education began shortly after, starting teacher training at Prudhoe Community High School in Northumberland.
Upon completing my PGCSE year, I remained at Prudhoe Community High School, teaching students from key stage 3 through to Further Mathematics at A-Level. I then moved to the Royal Grammar School Newcastle in 2006, where I dedicated myself to teaching until the summer of 2024.
Over the years, I have become an expert at filling in the gaps that are inevitably left behind during standard teaching to a large group of students. I can quickly identify problem areas and draw on a vast set of resources that have proven to boost exam results well above expected value added.
It is the dynamics of the small groups and the one-to-one conversations which I enjoy the most. Explaining a concept in different ways to find the one that works for each individual, searching for the key to unlock understanding, that lightbulb moment when it all falls into place, and the realization that no two students have exactly the same problems, is what makes it exciting for both me and those I teach.
Throughout my career, I have developed a proven track record at both schools, consistently achieving well above expected value-added outcomes with students of all ages and abilities. My passion lies in bridging educational gaps and nurturing understanding through personalised teaching approaches.
I deliver all teaching content independently, ensuring a personalised approach tailored to each student's needs. My daughter, a passionate mathematician herself, supports me in managing technical aspects and social media. Contact me today to discuss how I can support your educational needs.
